Don is the Executive Director of the Southern Colorado Technology Alliance. He is responsible for exposing SCTA member businesses to new opportunities that help grow and establish Colorado Springs as a nationally known center of gravity for innovation and excellence in aerospace and defense, particularly in satellite operations, command and control, and cyber security.
For the past thirteen years, Don has served as a consultant, becoming a trusted advisor to senior leaders of defense companies large and small as well as senior leaders of our military, specializing in business management processes, business development, leadership development, wargaming and strategic planning. He manages his own business, Excellence in Defense Consulting, LLC.
Don served as Exelis’ Program Director for the exceptionally successful $1.5B SENSOR contract – overseeing nearly 700 people conducting depot-level maintenance, repair and upgrade; contractor logistics support; and modernization of the U.S.’s world-wide network of ground-based space control, missile warning, and missile defense sensors.
Don retired from the U.S. Air Force with nearly 27 years of service and is a recognized operational expert in fighter operations, space surveillance, space control, cyber operations, missile warning and defense, and base/installation management. Previous military assignments included staff positions in the headquarters of Air Training Command, the United States Air Force Academy, Air Force Space Command, and The Joint Staff. At the Air Force Academy, Don served as the Air Officer Commanding for Cadet Squadron Eighteen as well as Aide-de-Camp, then Executive Officer to the Superintendent. He also served as the Executive Officer to the Vice Commander and Commander, Air Force Space Command; and as the Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
He and his wife, Ann, have two children, Eric and Courtney, and a granddaughter, Rylee. Don has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from St. Vincent College in Latrobe,
Pennsylvania, an MBA from National University and a Master’s degrees in Strategic Studies from the Air War College.
